Here, you’ll find answers to common queries about our leagues, training, and everything else you need to know to get started. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out!
There's are a number of ways of finding new players.
Ask us – interest@playnetball.com and we’ll let you know if anyone has contacted us looking to join a team.
Try placing an ad on internet message boards or social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Aussies In London, Kiwis in London)
Ask any Aussies or Kiwis that you know – we’ve not met a single one that doesn’t know of some netballers somewhere that are looking for a game.If you have any hot off the press ways of reaching new players please let us know!
You can find fill-ins by posting on our Facebook fill-ins page, or by asking on your captains WhatsApp group.
If you are still struggling to find anyone, you can get in touch with us at info@playnetball.com and we will try and help you find someone.
If you are playing the first game of the evening, get in touch and we will try to help. If you are playing later games, please go to the court early to ask players from earlier games if they can fill-in for you.
Absolutely! Many of our players are members of multiple teams on different nights of the week. Please contact Alex via email on interest@playnetball.com and she'll help you look for another team.
You need to sign in before your match and not afterwards.
Teams need at least 4 players signed in to avoid forfeiting the game (automatic 10-0 loss).
At Highbury the sign in sheet is at reception, at Angel it is on a desk on the right hand wall as you go into the School and in Dulwich it is on the bench next to the court.
To be eligible for semis and finals matches, you need to have signed in for a certain number of matches. This depends on the length of the season.
12 weeks – 4 sign-ins
14 weeks – 5 sign-ins
16 weeks – 6 sign-ins
If you want some extra games when teams need ringers, head to our Facebook fill-ins page to see what's on offer.
Remember, you can only fill-in for your grade or higher without penalty. For lower grades, you will incur a -5 deduction per grade.
Yes absolutely! What we call our 'Player Umpires' are invaluable to us, especially if we have a cancellation from one of our regular umpires at short notice. If you are happy to be contacted to umpire either before or after your match, please let us know and we'll add you to our list.
If you're new to umpiring, please still get in touch, as we can offer you some shadowing to get you started.
If you've got some umpiring experience, then please get in touch as we're always on the look out for new friendly umpires! You don't need any qualifications, but of course these are a bonus, especially if you are interested in umpiring our higher graded matches.
You will have two friendly umpires for each match. Sometimes things happen out of our control, and you'll only have one umpire. In these cases, the umpire will do their best to run the full court, but please be respectful if they don't catch everything. They are only human!
We play games in the wet and games will rarely be called off for weather reasons, unless it is too dangerous to play.
We check the forecasts regularly throughout the day, and if we decide to make a decision early, then we will notify you in the afternoon of play around 5pm via the captains WhatsApp groups.
We will also update our social media channels. If you have NOT heard from us, please assume games are going ahead as usual.
No news is good news! Our Site Managers can also make a call during the evening to cancel remaining matches if the weather worsens. If this happens, we will notify you via the captains WhatsApp groups.
Our full Weather Policy can be found here.
The team pays a set amount at the start of each season regardless of how many players are on that team. If you wish to join a team late in the season, you will need to speak directly to the captain to ascertain individual payment amounts.
Alternatively, if you are new team and there is space in one of our current leagues, we will charge you for the number of matches remaining in the season.
Let us know – we can help you to find permanent team-mates and give you some hints for finding new players.
Depending on availability we might also be able to place you all on a team that is looking for more than one player.
We do run Beginners Training Sessions 1-2 times per year. Head to our registration page and select 'Beginner' and we'll add you to our mailing list for the next set!
Each match is made up of 4 x 9 minute quarters with a very short break between each and a minute break at half time.
Of course! We love having newbies join us and bet that after a few weeks you will love the sport as much as we do!
Head over to our registration page and we can let you know about our upcoming Beginners Training Sessions. If you have missed the latest sessions, don't worry! We can sign post you to other sessions and resources in the area.
In the meantime, make sure you check out the rules of netball just so you have some idea of what the game is all about.
