Forfeiting matches explained

This is a reminder about our policy regarding match forfeits.

At the start of each season each team is allocated a set number of matches. Playnetball is committed to ensuring that all of these fixtures are fulfilled and that every team receives the games they are entitled to.

We fully appreciate that there will be occasions when your team may be short on players, whether due to holidays, injuries, or other commitments. In these situations, we strongly encourage you to use the captains’ WhatsApp group & Facebook fill-ins to seek additional players. Our Playnetball community is excellent at stepping in to help and with enough notice we can usually ensure that your opposition still gets a game. The match will be recorded as 10-0 (unless the opposition wins by a higher margin).

To maintain  a high standard of competition for everyone involved.a full forfeit (i.e. no players turn up) will result in a £74 forfeit fee & 25-0 scoreline. This fee does not line our pockets, it goes directly to the opposition (£64) and associated admin costs. Please bear in mind that courts and umpires are booked in advance and we do not receive refunds for these if a team fails to attend.

Fortunately, we will do our utmost to avoid the above scenario and by early notification and using the strategies outlined earlier, teams can help us to maintain well-run competitions in which everyone gets the matches they have paid for and deserves to play.
